Description

Union Pacific has one open position for an Assistant General Attorney. The role will be based in Union Pacific’s Omaha headquarters.

 

The Assistant General Attorney will serve as a corporate transactional and regulatory attorney for Union Pacific. The Assistant General Attorney will advise the Senior Counsel, the Vice President of Law, and the Chief Legal Officer on the successful resolution of transactional, operational, and regulatory legal matters. The Assistant General Attorney is responsible for managing a varied transactional and regulatory practice supporting multiple business units. The Assistant General Attorney will issue spot advice and provide creative resolutions needed for the successful completion of commercial transactions, operating agreements, and regulatory matters. The successful candidate will have approximately three years of experience as a transactional generalist with excellent negotiating, drafting, and problem-solving skills.

Accountabilities

  • Conduct research and analyze legal issues
  • Work independently and with a team while exhibiting excellent judgment and strong strategic and tactical thinking
  • Draft and review agreements supporting commercial activity including supply chain agreements and service contracts
  • Lead, handle, and balance a high volume of matters and assignments
  • Demonstrate expertise in legal and analytical work through a business-oriented, pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Prioritize and handle a workload including overlapping tasks, and meet deadlines while operating in a changing, fast-paced environment
  • Be highly responsive and organized
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, client relationship, and team skills
  • Develop and successfully apply specialized knowledge and experience
  • Provide confident, sound legal guidance to a motivated and innovative client.

Qualifications - Required

  • A Juris Doctor degree
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Admitted to practice law in the state of Nebraska or eligible to be admitted in Nebraska or to be registered as In-house counsel

Qualifications - Preferred

  • 3 or more years of work experience as a transactional attorney
